The most renowned hike in the Phoenix area would have to be Camelback Mountain. Located in the center of Scottsdale near Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall, this hike incorporates two separate trails that conjoin at the peak of the mountain with views of all Downtown Phoenix, Tempe, North Scottsdale and more. The two trails included are Cholla Trail and Echo Canyon Trail.
– Echo Canyon Trail –
Echo Canyon Trail is a 2.5 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail. This trail is one of the most popular trails in Scottsdale, AZ as well as the most popular of the two trails on Camelback Mountain.
The trailhead offers a water station and bathrooms in case of emergency. Be sure to fill up your water bottles and Camelbacks here before your hike.
Prepare for a challenge as you scale the large rocks leading up to the summit. There will be rails to help assist and flat areas to cool down. This trail has unexpected turns and a view worth hiking to the top for.
For the average hiker this trail may take anywhere from 45 minutes to 1 hour to summit, depending on personal ability.
– Cholla Trail –
Cholla Trail is a 2.6 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail. This trail is the easier of the two that Camelback Mountain has to offer.
The trailhead is on located on Cholla Lane and parking is available on Invergordon Street. There is no bathroom near the trailhead – prepare before you park.
Enjoy a scenic uphill hike that wraps around the Camelback mountainside featuring views of the Phoenician Resort Scottsdale and all of the valley surrounding.
TIP: Get to the trail at sunrise to grab a parking spot!
– Need To Know –
Both trails meet at the top.
Dogs are not allowed on either trail.
